Someone got to this blog by simply googling “disabled daughter” and I wanted to see what came up. One of the first links was this news article … here it is in full:

Deaths Occur At Oakland Nursing Home
POSTED: 1:54 pm PDT September 14, 2009OAKLAND, Calif. — A mother shot and killed her disabled daughter before taking her own life at an Oakland nursing home, police said.
Oakland Police Sgt. Jim Rullamas said 64-year-old Diana Marie Harden of Livermore fatally shot her daughter, 43-year-old Yvette Harden, in her room at the Oakland Springs Health Center shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.
Rullamas said the mother visited her daughter at least twice a week and had called staff before coming Sunday evening. She apparently brought a revolver into her daughter’s room inside a handbag.
Yvette Harden had been living at the facility for six years after suffering serious brain damage from a 1994 car accident that also left her partially paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.
Police said they don’t know a motive for the killing.

Oh yeah…no clue…baffling! My oh my what awful things those overworked, unsupported, possibly horrified at the crappy care kid was receiving in the home, had no sleep since the dawn of time, likely penniless, parents will do to their “confined to a wheelchair” kids. I think we should let Keeper at ’em. She uses the “f” word so eloquently. Officer Dumbass indeed….

It’s just sad… and I wish I was shocked or even surprised instead of simply sad.
Yes, you are right…it is very sad…it even happened in our town. Single dad and his adult daughter. And like you say, it hardly even comes as a surprise.
I’m so envious of the police. I wish I didn’t know a motive either.
