“Any time there’s a scandal, we always try and get involved.” ~Larry Flynt
Three paraprofessionals (i.e., aides) rather abruptly resigned from Pearlsky’s classroom, that’s 50%. I am told they did it tearfully.
Hmmm, I sense a scandal. More information as it arrives …
(Judging from the [lack of] comments in the last post, I assume that no one out there “rocks”? Other than me, of course, because I was on that mailing list …)
I commented…what am I, chopped-fuckin-liver?
Ken: Yes, you did. And no, I do not think of you as chopped-f’ing-liver at all. More like kishka, actually.
That aside, I happen to think that you rock, in many ways. I was hoping for a sentence or two on why that is (from your perspective, not mine).
Have you Googled “kishka” yet? (And truth be told, I love kishka.)

Alright, who stole the kishka?
Actually, truth be told, Ellen (I follow her blog) had written me about the subject regarding a blog she wanted to write and asked me my opinion on some Father Bloggers I thought highly of, and I sent her a few names.
As I sat there thinking of who to recommend to her I realized some things…
One, exactly what you did, and I told her as much, that most of us PROBABLY would not see ourselves in a positive light necessarily, rather that we do the best we can with what we have and HOPE we are good Fathers.
Two, there are three zillion more women writing these things than dudes. I wondered why. Still collating.
And three, that I really hated Father’s Day, but for very different reasons, going way, way back.
What is most fascinating is that you think that I rock and I think that you rock and yet neither of us would really use the term on ourselves. Maybe that’s just a guy thing.
I will say this though…volunteering to watch Bennett alone for a week. OK, I’ll take some ‘rockage’ props for that I suppose. But see, that voice in my head, well one of them at least, says ‘YOU SHOULD DO SHIT LIKE THIS WAY MORE OFTEN YA PUSSY.’
And THAT’S why I hate Father’s Day.
oooooooowow, I can’t WAIT to hear what happened.
also? I LOVE kishka. Mmmm, mmm, good.
I agree with Ken that it is a guy thing to be more low key. We don’t usually think “man I’m great!”. I know I’m usually thinking about what else/more I should be doing instead. However, I’ll man up….
Zac is 2 1/2 and has CP. I rock as Zac’s Dad because I let him rough house with me, along with his triplet brother and sister wrestling on the floor. They will both climb all over him and he can’t really stop them, but he loves it! He laughs and laughs. I let him just be a kid.
Holy crud, that doesn’t sound good. I’m a bit bit scared but very interesting to hear what happened.
Regarding the Father’s Day question, may I chime in on behalf of my husband?
Monkey’s dad tends to leave the day – to – day routine of managing the disabilities to me. He comes to the “big” appointments, but he likes to try to stay out of the way. He prefers instead to do the “normal” dad stuff – or at least, his and Monkey’s version of “normal.” He throws Monkey a ball a hundred times, even if 99 of them end in a fumble. He roughhouses, watches the same dumb movies over and over, takes Monkey to baseball games, and brings him to work with him to proudly introduce him to his coworkers. Kevin summed it up perfectly – he just lets him be a kid. That is every bit as important as therapy, if not more.
I know you didn’t ask for it, but I must say that you are an awesome dad. Kudos to you.
Ooh I can’t wait! I think kishka is just the Jewish version of kolbász. Ken should be flattered 🙂
Ya know, the potential is there for a good soap opera…Tune in tomorrow and see who else is screwing with Single Dad’s kids. Watch as our hero dons his cloak of indignation. Can’t wait for the next installment. Any how, you’ll probably never really know what happened. Do you have any contact with any of the other parents?
Here’s hoping they got “let go” because they legitimately did something wrong, and not because the school is trying to cover something up and afraid the aides will talk. Of course…it’s probably just budget cuts. Next time one of the kids doesn’t get proper timely help, the school can just chalk it up to being understaffed.
