Black Pudding

This will cause your blood to boil. Beware.

WTF is what comes to mind…..
Well fuck! Is this even legal?
I call bullshit.
Their excuse is bullshit, that is. It’s is not about Amelia’s “quality of life”.
It is about a rare and precious organ, many waiting, and who they choose to save.
Let’s call a spade a fucking shovel:
It’s about eugenics.
P.S. I was going to apologize for the strong language, but I’m not sorry at all. (Sorry for not being sorry, though)
I agree with JWG, statements and questions. This goes against the Disability’s Act full fledged. It’s past bedtime for me and I am not thinking straight, what is the attorney’s group for civil rights that takes on such situations?
I have no words. Angry.
This is a doctor’s morally corrupt and outrageous take on doing no harm? I read this in several places yesterday and nearly threw up every time….who makes a decision that some lives are not worth living? Perhaps the doctors has a Mengle complex (just made that up)…

I hope the mainstream media get all over this like white on rice. And I hope they publish this physician’s name in the first paragraph.
I LOVE the internet. Before the internet parents might have felt defeated and given up for lack of information and knowledge. The meeting and events at the hospital are appalling absolutely but look at all the comments on the blog. People who have the knowledge, information and direction to resources to help. The pathogens that make up the “ethics” committee will regret having met this wonderful family.

FWI, there is a Change.org petition out for this, it’s connected to FB, the FB story is going around. I posted it around FB yesterday and plan on finding some new venues.
It looks like they are getting negative publicity at least on line; I hope to see some mainstream blowback soon.
The part that got me was the doctor saying he’d been warned about how involved the parents are in their daughter’s life. Geez. What reasonable parents AREN’T incredibly involved with their daughter’s life and HEALTH. Geez.
Some updates on the story (with lots of links) here:
http://specialchildren.about.com/b/2012/01/13/hospital-denies-kidney-transplant-because-of-girls-intellectual-disability.htm?r=twitter
I’m not able to see the page? Whenever I try clicking on it, it won’t come up. All I see is a blank page.
Never mind, I saw it. 🙁 I’m praying that Amelia gets the transplant she needs!
That is so terrible to have to think about.
They won’t hesitate to perform a full tumor resection craniotomy on a four year old which left her completely disabled. This of course was at a totally different hospital.
Firstly I admire their restraint…. I’m afraid if I was spoken to like that about my son that Doctor would be in line for some reconstructive and transplant surgery of his own… and as for the social worker coming into a meeting about a topic like that and then taking a phone call in the middle of it… show some fucking manners and turn the thing off and PAY ATTENTION to the family…
I wish Amelia’s family every strength in fighting this battle.
… I have no words. My brain just shuts itself off when I try to comprehend. … incredible.
Reprehensible – it’s all I can say
The medical team at the hospital will band together as the lemmings they need to be for legal and (their version of) ethical reasons and the hospital will certainly be left fighting some validly irate human rights groups!
So scary…
Ashamed to be from the Philly area when I read this.
As a note- they made tonight’s local news (I can provide a link if anyone is interested)
It’s beyond sad.
Wow – did CHOP make you take that down?
Helena: I believe you are referring to an earlier comment that gave a doctor’s name, phone and email at CHOP. I took it down on my own, although a fellow blog reader (thanks, K) quickly brought it to my attention. The intent of putting the doctor’s contact info up was assuredly to harass him. One major problem was it was unknown if this was the correct doctor, “almost undoubtedly” does not cut it. But more important, this blog is not intended to go after people, I even modify / hide the identities of people who severely wrong Pearlsky. I may offer up people’s own words and identify them, but even that is rare. If the doctor publicly discusses this issue, that would be different. Finally, harassing him would not help. People should send their hate mail to the ethics committee or the hospital or the media.
Oh, okay. Well, since it was your decision, I completely respect that. I was concerned that the hospital tried to tell you that you had to take it off. I’m sorry.
