“Stubborn and ardent clinging to one’s opinion is the best proof of stupidity.” ~Michel de Montaigne
Before I get into this post, look who is back to blogging! She is worth a look, trust me.
It turns out that it is definitely nursing who have caused all of Pearlsky’s meals to be blended. And, it turns out that they claim that is the only way she can eat and has always had her meals blended, forever. Understand that the Special Education Director in the high school is brand new, and the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services is also brand new. They figure the nurses would not lie, right?
Damn good thing that Single Dad is an anal son-of-a-bitch. I have every email I have ever sent, and every legitimate one I have received. Scary, no?
Here is the email I sent Friday afternoon to the two new administrators, the superintendent, and the state attorney general. Keep in mind, nursing has said that Pearlsky has never had food not blended. The included emails are from teachers from the school Pearlsky attended just before the high school.
Subject: From your own staff … proof Pearlsky always has had normal food
You have not had a chance to tell me where you got the information that Pearlsky only eats blended food in your school district, but here are multiple emails from past years that prove otherwise.
I have added the emphasis in the appropriate places. Note that references to my son David are solely for flavors in his mouth, he was exclusively fed by a g-tube.
Additionally, I was told this morning that your nursing staff has claimed that Pearlsky should not eat solid food. Please note, again, I have had a 27 page complaint against your head nurse for a year that is being investigated by the state. It is outrageous that she is still making decisions concerning Pearlsky. Seriously, if you had a serious complaint concerning neglect and abandonment against your child’s pediatrician, would you allow that pediatrician to continue to care and make decisions for your child? Why is Pearlsky subjected to this?
Once again, why is Pearlsky being treated differently now?

Pearlsky and David both had great days …
We’ve found that both Pearlsky and David love things made with Soy Milk. If you’d like, you can send us some every week to make them food with. Also, Pearlsky loves eating ritz crackers and hummus. She had 7 crackers with hummus yesterday and 6 today for lunch. Feel free to send us some crackers and hummus so we can keep up her good eating.
We will also need diapers and wipes for next week.
Have a great weekend!

Just thought I’d write out your shopping list now before I forgot.
fruit for David and Pearlsky
and anything else you think that they might want to eat for lunch
Thanks!! Have a fun week with David and Pearlsky.

Pearlsky just threw up a good deal of mucus and whatever was left in her belly. She started coughing and then just lost it. She’s fine but the entire seat of her chair is covered. We’ll clean it up as best we can but then you’ll definitely have to wash her seat tonight or it will really smell tomorrow. We did try giving her chopped turkey out of a can today mixed with mayo so that may have been part of it although she finished lunch about 45 min. ago.

Pearlsky ate some solid food for the first time this week with me during snack! She had a raspberry nutrigrain bar. I was hoping that we would have the same luck for lunch but she refused her choice of hummus & ritz crackers.
Pearlsky stayed awake all morning this week! Very exciting AND she was in a good mood…lots of smiles for me, which are usually few and far between. Just wanted to give you an update.

I looked in Pearlsky’s bag today and her folder had been cleaned out…the permission slip is in the papers removed. I didnt get a chance to write her note today because I went swimming with the kids. Pearlsky ate lunch (a spinach calzone from the cafeteria) but no snack…she was distracted by Michael’s yelling. So, about tomorrow, Jim is coming with a snake, a sulcata tortoise, a skink, a bunny, a hedgehog, and a monkey. I think she’d really enjoy petting them and feeling their different skin textures. If you could check for the slip that would be great and if you can’t find it, maybe you could just write that she is allowed to come see the presentation and include the $5 that way.
That worked. I’ve been asked to come in Monday to show the teacher and aide how she is fed at home. No more blending!
As for some suggestions to record what goes on at school, I’d love to but in this state it is very illegal. That’s ok, I have the head nurse on the run. The state will have a final verdict on my complaint this month, and either way I will probably be filing federal civil right charges against her. Stay tuned!
Thank you for the link. I wish there was a way beyond the blog for you to teach lots of parents your advocacy skills. Think maybe the new administrators will get the nurse’s number quickly?
Best of luck with all these things.
Can you please point us to the blog post(s) where you explain the content of the complaint against the head nurse? I remember following that closely, but there have been so many complaint-worthy things since then I don’t remember which of her horrible behavior is actually in the complaint! Now that a decision is (we hope) forthcoming, I want to refresh my memory.
Again, best of luck . . .
Good for you. I can’t believe the laziness and lack of ethics/morals of these nurses.
I love the Montaigne quote — have used it myself from time to time (usually about myself, actually).
The continued saga of this feeding bullshit pisses me off. I’m sure I get stuck in wondering why this happens, why everything, everything, everything has to be so hard in our world. It’s enough to drive one insane, but strangely, we’re not.
Also the blended food might make her good eating regress… Textures are everything.
I’m ashamed to be a nurse. Really, this shames my chosen profession. This is just incredibly sad and nearly unbelievable.
So glad the blended food is stopping. I once had kitchen staff mix strawberry Pediasure with a hamburger and blend it. Think, people. Think. If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t make it. It just didn’t occur to her that it might taste bad. I did have one student who loved the blended pizza, though.
