Shaking, and had a drink
When this hits the media, I will let you know. It may be soon. I am still shaking, hours later. I had a drink (albeit a small one … very very dry Southern Comfort Manhattan, up, with a twist, if you must know).
Emails of the day.
To the Department of Public Health and to the State Attorney General’s Chief of Civil Rights:
I have no idea where to go or who to tell …
The head nurse just informed me that the school nurses will not be giving Pearlsky her doctor mandated amino acid at the normal 2:30 time, it is currently 1:50. She has decided that she does not approve of how it is delivered to the school.
As of several weeks ago, the DPH, school physician, school administration, head nurse and I agreed that I would send it in in a commercially labeled amino acid container.
This is outrageous neglect according to state law, “A nurse licensed by the Board shall not abuse, neglect, mistreat, abandon, or otherwise harm a patient.”
Note that the law defines neglect as such: “Neglect means the unjustified failure to provide treatment and/or services necessary to maintain the health and/or safety of a patient.”
NOT ONLY DID THEY REFUSE TO GIVE IT TODAY, they did not have Pearlsky’s “para-professional” give it, the woman who has for several years. The amino acid was delivered to school as it has been for over 12 years and NO ONE gave it to her, KNOWINGLY and INTENTIONALLY denying her the primary medical treatment that she needs. It was a conscious, specific decision on the head nurse’s part to have NO ONE give Pearlsky her amino acid.
I was notified of this at a time when I could not physically get to the school to do it.
The woman is neglecting AND endangering my daughter at this very moment.
Please help me protect my daughter’s life, her health, and her rights.
Apparently, Pearlsky cannot attend school from this point on. PLEASE ADVISE.
Superintendent:
I must inform you that Pearlsky will not be attending school, as legally mandated, due to the events of today.
The head nurse has decided that Pearlsky cannot receive her doctor mandated amino acid, as she has every day that she has been in the school district, approximately fifteen years. As shown by the actions today, the head nurse has decided that neither the school nurses NOR any other personnel can give it. Pearlsky was sent home, having consciously been denied what the doctors have ordered be handled as “a medication” because I was too far away to get to school in time and the head nurse did not allow any nurses to give it, nor did she allow anyone else to do so.
This is a direct violation of her civil rights, endangered her health, and more, but unfortunately it is something that must occur everyday and there is no time to fight the issues. Hence, effective immediately, Pearlsky cannot be endangered by attending school.
Please advise.
I just got a call from the Attorney General’s Chief of Civil Rights … she is not at all happy. She will let that be known tomorrow morning to both the Superintendent and to the Town lawyers. She promised Pearlsky. Really.
(Before you tell me to sue the bastards, understand that the Attorney General’s office bringing charges is much worse than me trying to sue. It is a bigger stick.)
Oh my freaking God.
So now we know the real reason why this has been going on. The woman is an evil bitch who actively wants your child to suffer.
How many other children is she in charge of? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn she’s torturing some of them. Seriously.
But what are you going to do tomorrow? The day after that? Does the AG understand that this cannot wait? Will the woman be fired immediately? Or at least be put on suspension?
I’m waiting with baited breath.
Another reason not to sue the town is that EVERYONE wants the nurse to give Pearlsky the amino acid EXCEPT the nurse. From previous posts it sounds like all the other parties have not only been on your side but also exerted pressure on the nurse (at least recently).
What boggles the mind is that SHE AGREED to a plan and then just dropped that plan. Evil, evil bitch.
How is it that the para was unable to give it? The nurse forbade her? or didn’t tell her the medication hadn’t been given? Something else?
What on earth does she think she is doing? I don’t understand this at all, except on the terms the others have stated above. She’s sick and twisted.
Goodness. Can you get her care while you work and she’s at school indefinitely, and on short notice like this?
Ditto Ken without the nice word.
I’m shaking too. Think this will get the bitch fired?
I am comforted knowing Pearlsky is safer now.
I’m stunned that the nurse is completely oblivious to the fact that she is violating so many mandates/wishes/plans, etc. She truly seems to think there will be no negative consequences for her; otherwise she wouldn’t rationally make the decisions she is making. Honestly, perhaps she is incompetent on more than one level – including mentally.
Really, not only should she be fired, but her license should be looked into. This woman is NOT safe, and she doesn’t even seem to know it. It’s shocking that it has gone this far with no remorse on her part and thankfully, no medical emergencies on your part.
I am appalled that after all the meetings etc that you have chronicled here, that she would agree to give the amino acid and then rescind the decision moments later. In the middle of the day no less. Unbelievably callous. What is she doing in a helping profession?
I think I just puked up blood after reading that. I am, for once, speechless.
It’s a huge black mark for a school district when the Office of Civil Rights gets involved—they can lose all sorts of funding, and we know that’s the bottom line. I can’t imagine this nurse-thing won’t be fired. She really must be demented.
I’m totally stunned. What a cow – and that’s insulting cows. This nurse is giving nurses everywhere a bad name. Not to mention humans in general. She needs to be suspended from her job immediately pending revocation of her license.
Oh, kerrist. In the UK that would be reckless endangerment, and time to involve the police.
Can I do anything from here? Write letters? Would like to send you both a care package if you’re agreable, just as a statement of support. I’m deeply involved in the disabled people’s movement over here, some of my buddies have contacts that side of the pond. Say the word and we’ll see how quick ADAPT or someone can picket the school…
That is beyond the fucking pale. She is a despicable human being, how fucking dare she do that? Does she think Pearlsky’s life is a game?
I hope they smash her.
Can you please update and let us know that Pearlsky is okay and not seizing away in the hospital somewhere?
Aidel – she was sent home so hopefully that means that she got her amino acid on time, at home.
What is wrong with this woman? Seriously, there must be something wrong with her, mentally.
We had a pediatric surgeon in town like this who was a damned lunatic. One day she disappeared after years and years of complaints about her. I just found her face on “Who’s In Jail.” for destroying property while under the influence. Guess this was the straw that broke administrations back finally You wonder how people like this go on and on for so long don’t you? Next time you see the nurse and she opens her mouth yell, “Get thee behind me Satan,” just to see her reaction. But honey if her head starts to spin run for your life…
Came back to share another blog post that includes issues with school nurses, this time in CA.

I sat down intending to voice ow utterly appalled this made me and THAT doesn’t even cut it. I like to think I am an intelligent and articulate person, but that just left me sitting in front of my computer sputtering.
Forget revoking her licenses, she should be locked up for the rest of her unnatural life…. daemon woman that she is.
Make that “HOW utterly appalled…” I may be articulate but I don’t type so well some days 😉
